Human trafficking is the action or practice of illegally transporting people from one country or area to another, typically for the purposes of forced labor or sexual exploitation. Human trafficking is the fastest growing and second largest criminal industry in the world. It is a form of modern day slavery.

The Department of State’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons leads the United States’ global engagement on the fight against human trafficking, partnering with foreign governments and civil society to develop and implement effective strategies for confronting modern slavery.

Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force
The Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force (MHTTF) is the state’s primary organization that works to prevent trafficking, protect victims by providing them with the services they need, prosecute traffickers, and partner with a variety of organizations to eradicate the scourge of human trafficking from our communities.
