Our History
2000: Mid-Atlantic P.A.N.D.A. began.
2002: First “Train the Trainer” Seminar: Children’s National Medical Center, Washington, DC.
2004: Mid-Atlantic P.A.N.D.A. converted into a Coalition.
2000-2009: Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for formation of Coalition.
2009: Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners mandates two hours of Continuing Education required for every other license renewal period.
2010: Collaboration with Philips Sonicare to host free online Abuse and Neglect seminar.
2012: Mid-Atlantic P.A.N.D.A. has over 50 volunteer Trainers.
2015: Article published in AGD Impact – Helping Hands: The Dentist’s Role in Identifying and Reporting Abuse. Mid-Atlantic P.A.N.D.A. now has a lobbyist and the organization was very involved in the 2015 Maryland General Assembly session. Susan Camardese and Sheryl Syme collaborated on a chapter of the textbook Dental Hygiene: Theory and Practice, 4th edition. The chapter is entitled Abuse and Neglect.
2017: Mid-Atlantic P.A.N.D.A. is designated as an Approved PACE Program Provider by the Academy of General Dentistry. The formal continuing education programs of this program provider are accepted by AGD for Fellowship/Mastership and membership maintenance credit. Approval does not imply acceptance by a state or provincial board of dentistry or AGD endorsement. The current term of approval extends from 09/01/2018 to 8/31/2020 (Provider ID# 378528).
